Figure skater Gabrielle Daleman has returned home from Sochi. Canada’s youngest Olympian in Sochi performed extraordinarily well (especially for her age + this was her first senior international competition) in the short and long program, placing 17th. A”Dazzling Debut”!
“I can’t believe I just competed at the Olympics what a dream come true!!!!!” tweeted the local native after her competition. ( @gabby-daleman )
LITTLE KNOWN FACT: Pickering College in Newmarket was the filming location for the fictional Olympian figure skater character Kate Mosely’s rink in the popular movie Cutting Edge (1992)…fast-forward many years, and figure skater Gabrielle Daleman skated on this very same ice as a student at Pickering College.

The members of the Holland Landing Scouting and Guiding Units and their parents celebrated Guide-Scout Week with a potluck dinner at the Holland Landing Community Centre on February 19, 2014. The children especially enjoyed the slot car racing, the icecream, cake and cookies. A speech from Mayor Virginia Hackson, a performance by the Guides, and a slide show set to music by the Scouts enhanced the evening.
The event and the Scouting/Guiding programs could not occur without the generous support of the volunteer leaders who play a significant role in shaping the boys and girls to become leaders, to take action in their communities, and inspire them to “do their best”. Scouting Founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell and his wife Olave Baden-Powell, World Chief Guide would surely be proud.
